The Lion Standing in the Wind

Koichiro Shimada works at a teaching hospital in Japan. He sets out from Nagoya. He is sent to a tropical medicine institute in Kenya. What he finds there is heavier than he expected. He chooses to stay on rather than serve out a short posting. Most of his patients have been hurt in fighting. Things do not run smoothly at the hospital. He has a hard time with the nurses and with his colleagues. Then he meets a very young patient, a boy pushed into the war, whose injuries go deeper than what can be seen. That meeting changes the doctor’s course. Behind the story is a song by Masashi Sada. Takao Osawa was moved by it and asked for a novel, and Sada wrote first the book and then the screenplay. Takao Osawa, Satomi Ishihara and Yoko Maki appear in the hundred and thirty nine minute film, a Japanese production Takashi Miike finished in 2015.
