What The Little Sister Is About
Fatima is seventeen, the youngest daughter of a French-Algerian family in a Paris suburb. She leaves her school for a competitive prep class in the city; she plays football, keeps a life hidden from her family, and cannot tell anyone she is attracted to women. The freedom opening up in Paris rubs against the tradition and faith at home. Herzi adapted the film from the novel Fatima Daas wrote out of her own life. It neither caricatures the family nor declares religion the enemy; it follows a young woman trying to find her own way without giving up either.
