The Living Room of the Nation

The documentary goes into living rooms in Finland. It was filmed in the homes of six people. Each of them speaks in their own house. They sit down in front of the camera. What they talk about is their own lives. The people speaking are at different stages of life. Joys and troubles come side by side. One thing the film is about is the wish to be needed and to be seen. One speaks about being a father. One remembers childhood, and another has a relationship that is not working. Loneliness comes up often. What they are all after is much the same thing, closeness or understanding or being accepted. The film also shows time passing, holding the comic and the sad together. It won the Jussi award for documentary in 2009. Jukka Kärkkäinen made the seventy five minute documentary, a Finnish production finished in 2009.
