The Loneliest Whale: The Search for 52

The documentary goes after one whale. This whale calls at a frequency of fifty two hertz. That is unlike any other whale known. No other whale answers it. The sound was first picked up by navy listening systems in 1989. The animal has never been seen. Its call was last heard in 2003. Joshua Zeman puts to sea to look for it. The search is made off southern California. The team has seven days. They work with underwater listening equipment. The film is about the idea of loneliness as much as the search, and about how the story of the whale turned into a myth. Leonardo DiCaprio and Adrian Grenier are among the producers of the ninety six minute documentary, an American production Joshua Zeman finished in 2021.
