What The Lost Strait Is About

In the last days of the Iran Iraq war, a group of soldiers from the Ammar battalion is assigned to hold the Abu Ghuraib strait. The force in front of them is far superior in numbers and equipment, and it is not even clear that holding on has any military value; even so they do not leave their position. The film tells the war not from grand strategy but from the exhaustion, the thirst and the holding on to one another of a few men in a trench. The account is set just before the days in which Iran would accept the ceasefire. Javad Ezzati and Amir Jadidi appear in Bahram Tavakkoli’s ninety three minute Iranian film. It was completed in 2018 and won best film, best director and best actor at the Fajr film festival.
