What The Man from Elysian Fields Is About
Byron Tiller wanted to be a novelist. The first book did not sell, nobody will publish the second, and the bills are stacking up at home. He takes a job he cannot tell his wife about, at an escort agency called Elysian Fields. His first client is the much younger wife of a famous, ageing writer. The writer takes an interest in Byron and offers him work on his final book, and the two jobs fold into each other. George Hickenlooper directs. Andy Garcia leads, Mick Jagger plays the man who runs the agency, and James Coburn is the old writer. It was one of Coburn's last substantial roles, and it is generally reckoned Jagger's best work as an actor.
