What The Man Who Feels No Pain Is About
Known in Hindi as Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, The Man Who Feels No Pain marked director Vasan Bala's debut and actor Abhimanyu Dassani's screen debut, and became the first Indian film to play in the Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness section, winning the People's Choice Midnight Madness Award over Assassination Nation and Halloween. Who it's for: anyone drawn to award winning Indian genre cinema that combines childhood kung fu movie worship with a hero who can't feel pain. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a traditional, serious Bollywood drama, since the film is a deliberately absurd, flashy genre pastiche.
