What The Man Who Wagged His Tail Is About
In the Little Italy of Brooklyn, a landlord torments his immigrant tenants with rent demands and threats of eviction. Turned into a dog by an old woman’s curse, he lives the life he created from underneath it: hungry, chased off, belonging to nobody. What returns him to human form is a child’s affection, and he does not come back the same man. Ladislao Vajda’s Spanish-Italian co-production attaches the fable not to a moral lecture but to something concrete: that the only way this man will understand his tenants is to become one. Peter Ustinov plays the landlord and Pablito Calvo the boy.
