What The Missing Gun Is About
Ma Shan is a policeman in a small town. He drinks badly at his sister's wedding, and when he wakes the next morning the pistol issued to him is gone. There are three bullets in it. He starts looking, trying to remember who he was with that night and where he went. Then his former lover is found dead, and the bullet came from his gun. Now he has to find the weapon, find the killer, and prove he is not the killer himself. Lu Chuan's first film has Jiang Wen as Ma Shan. It looks like a crime picture but plays close to comedy, and what it is really about is a man losing his standing in his own town.
