What Mountain Patrol Is About
On the Tibetan plateau a patrol of volunteers tries to protect antelope hunted for the value of their wool. There are no vehicles, no fuel and no wages; the men follow poachers for days above four thousand metres. The film comes from a real unit and refuses to present them as heroes: to find money they have to sell the pelts they confiscate, and it does not hide the contradiction. Lu Chuan shot at real altitude with a mostly non-professional Tibetan cast. Extremely hard for its genre; nobody is rescued and the landscape favours no one.
