What The Monster Squad Is About
A group of kids obsessed with horror films run into the classic monsters when they turn up in their town. All they have is a notebook and adults who do not believe them. The film carries the Universal monsters into a children's adventure; the knowledge in the narrative comes from the kids' fandom, so the monsters' rules are the rules the fans already know. Fred Dekker directed and wrote it with Shane Black. It flopped on release and became a cult film on video. Before watching: it looks like a children's film but carries hard language and some homophobic jokes of its period. Worth a look yourself before putting it on as family viewing.
