What The Naked Truth Is About
Nigel Dennis publishes a scandal magazine. His method is simple: he goes to the subject of the story first, shows them that everything is left at the level of implication so that no libel action will stick, and offers to suppress it for money. His victims each decide separately to kill him instead of paying, and each of them fails ridiculously. Then they realise that the only way to protect their secrets is to work together. Mario Zampi's 1957 film is one of the sharper pieces of British black comedy, holding blackmail, attempted murder and the ethics of the press inside the same joke. Terry-Thomas and Peter Sellers face each other, with Sellers taking on several disguises.
