What Delhi Belly Is About
Three young men sharing a flat in Delhi have their lives upended when a package changes hands by mistake: there are diamonds in it and they belong to a gangster. Abhinay Deo makes it fast, coarse and deliberately obscene, with a density of swearing Indian mainstream cinema had barely attempted, most of it in English. Aamir Khan stood behind it as producer and much of the row grew from that. The template comes from post-Ritchie and post-Tarantino crime comedy, while Delhi's own filth, traffic and landlord relations give it a flavour of its own. It is kept short and the song count is cut down. Who it is for: viewers who like black crime comedy and Indian films that break the mould. Who it is not for: anyone put off by crude humour and constant profanity.
