What The Narrow Road Is About
In the first months of the pandemic in Hong Kong, Chak, who runs a small cleaning company, is trying to keep it going; there is more disinfection work than ever, but no money is coming in. Candy, the new cleaner he takes on, is a young woman raising her small daughter alone. In time a trust forms between them, but the small lies and shortcuts the woman has used for years to get by wear that trust down. The film uses the pandemic not as a scene of catastrophe but as the background of a life whose rent cannot be paid. Louis Cheung and Angela Yuen appear in Lam Sum’s hundred and thirteen minute Hong Kong film.
