The Order of Myths

The documentary is about the carnival celebrated in Mobile, Alabama, in 2007. On the face of it the celebration is a single festival, but it is split in two. The Black and white communities hold separate parades and separate balls. The film shows how that division carries on and how nobody quite puts it into words. The camera goes inside both sides. The account follows people, parades and parties on both sides of the color line. What lies underneath the pageantry is the real subject. The account makes no accusation; it listens to what people say for themselves. The ninety seven minutes are given to a single carnival season. Margaret Brown’s American documentary was completed in 2008.
