What The Other Side of the Street Is About
Regina, sixty-five, lives alone in Copacabana and holds off the loneliness by taking part in a police scheme in which retired people report small crimes. One night, watching the building opposite through binoculars, she is certain she has seen a man kill his wife with an injection. She calls the police, the death is recorded as natural and the file closes. Unable to accept being disbelieved, Regina sets out to prove it herself and grows close to the man she suspects. Marcos Bernstein folds the shape of Rear Window into a film about age and solitude. Fernanda Montenegro was named best actress at Tribeca in 2004.
