The Other Zoey

Zoey studies computer science, works on algorithms and regards romance as inefficiency. When Zach, the school's football star, loses his memory in an accident and takes her for his girlfriend, she cannot correct him fast enough and ends up inside the lie. What complicates it is Zach's cousin Miles, whom she actually likes; the film runs on the shape of finding the right man while pretending with the wrong one. Sara Zandieh directed. Josephine Langford plays Zoey, Drew Starkey plays Zach and Archie Renaux plays Miles. It opened on 20 October 2023. What works is Zoey's own world: the coding, the campus, her habit of treating friendship as a balance problem. What does not is that the amnesia is never taken seriously; the script uses it as a device and then leaves it there. A light, short, predictable romantic comedy. A painless evening for anyone who likes the genre, and nothing for anyone wanting surprise or depth.
