The Paternal House

A young woman is killed by her own father. Her younger brother helps him do it. They bury her body secretly in the cellar of the house. The cellar is where the women of the house work. They weave carpets there and do the household chores. For years the matter is told to nobody. The house does not forget it, though. The absence of the dead woman stays inside the house. At times it stays like a presence. The story runs on through the generations. New families live in the same house. In every generation the past returns in some form. The film takes place entirely inside that house. The production was banned several times in Iran. Mehdi Hashemi and Shahab Hosseini appear in the ninety seven minute film, an Iranian production Kianush Ayyari finished in 2014.
