Creepy

Takakura leaves the police after a case goes wrong, starts teaching at a university and moves into a new house with his wife. The neighbour is odd: his speech does not hold together, his daughter says he is not her father, and a family disappeared from the street years ago. Kiyoshi Kurosawa builds dread not by showing a threat but by corrupting behaviour, so scenes begin normally and something inside them goes wrong. Teruyuki Kagawa plays the neighbour, Hidetoshi Nishijima the former policeman. The most disturbing thing in it is that the victims do not resist and this is never explained. Kurosawa's familiar empty houses and wind are part of the storytelling again. Who it is for: viewers who like Japanese psychological thrillers and horror that refuses to explain. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a rational solution, which is not supplied.
