What The Patsy Is About
An awkward younger sister who gets overlooked at every turn is hopelessly in love with her older sister's boyfriend and does everything she can to make him notice her. King Vidor's silent film is adapted from a play by Barry Conners. What made it famous is the scene in which Marion Davies imitates the man's three favourite actresses: Mae Murray, Lillian Gish and Pola Negri. Vidor knew about that gift from Davies' private impressions and wanted it on screen. It also served as a comeback for Marie Dressler after a long stretch out of work. The reviews were good and it did well at the box office.
