At the centre of the account is a middle-aged businessman. The man has always lived his life by the rules. He never strayed from the order society expected. His days passed one like another. But there is a stretch in his past. In that time he met a young woman. She had brought him out of his shell. That memory has not left him even now. He is now looking back on it. He still remembers her. The account moves between the past and the present. The events reach back to the years of the First World War. Hedy Lamarr and Robert Young take the leads, with Ruth Hussey, Charles Coburn and Van Heflin also in the cast, in King Vidor’s American film of 1941.
