What The Perfect Host Is About
A man wounded after a bank robbery knocks on a random door looking for somewhere to hide and pretends to be a friend of the man who lives there. He is let in. The first half hour plays as a home invasion thriller, then the balance reverses. From there the film sustains rather than explains what has happened, and leaves the viewer inside the host's world as well. It is Nicholas Tomnay's first feature, developed from his own short. David Hyde Pierce leads. Who it's for: those who like single-location black comedy with an uncertain tone. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a realistic crime thriller; the film changes genre midway and keeps its logic loose.
