The Puppetoon Movie

The work is a compilation film. What it gathers are the Puppetoon shorts. George Pal made those films. The period they were made in is the thirties and the forties. The method used is called replacement animation. In it a separate puppet piece is used for each frame. Movement is therefore built by carving it out one step at a time. The film presents those shorts one after another. A framing story has been set between them. Animated characters carry that frame. They introduce the films to the viewer. Paul Frees and Dick Beals are among the voices. Art Clokey appears in Arnold Leibovit’s American film of 1987 as well, which runs seventy eight minutes.
