What The Reckoning Is About
Michael Marler, a successful businessman in London, is on the point of rising further; he is hard, ambitious and has cut his ties with where he came from. His father’s death brings him back after thirty seven years to his home town of Liverpool and to his Irish family, and he learns that his father died of a blow taken in a fight. Rather than go to the police he decides to settle the account himself, and in doing so finds that when he returns to his London life he is no longer the same man. Jack Gold’s hundred and eleven minute British film was adapted from a novel and is about the price of moving up a class. Nicol Williamson plays Marler, with Rachel Roberts and Paul Rogers in the cast. It was completed in 1970.
