What The Red Mill Is About
Tina, a servant at an inn in Holland, is badly treated by her employer, yet she sets about bringing the burgomaster’s daughter together with the man she loves, while losing her own heart to a young Irishman who has come to town. The mill, the well and the chases over the ice turn the story into a comedy. The seventy four minute silent film was directed by Roscoe Arbuckle under William Goodrich, the name he used after the scandal; King Vidor produced it, Cosmopolitan made it and MGM distributed it, and it opened on 29 January 1927. Marion Davies plays Tina, with Owen Moore, Louise Fazenda and Karl Dane in the cast. The story comes from Victor Herbert’s musical of 1906.
