What The Reivers Is About
Mississippi at the turn of the century. Two mischievous adults of the household talk eleven-year-old Lucius into taking the family car out without permission, and the three of them head for Memphis. The car sinks in mud, there is a horse race, the boy ends up in a brothel, and he learns the rules of the adult world at speed. Getting home means all of them answering for it. Mark Rydell adapted William Faulkner's last novel. Steve McQueen plays one of the reivers and Burgess Meredith narrates. John Williams wrote the score and was nominated for an Oscar for it, as was Rupert Crosse for supporting actor.
