What The Fox Is About

Jill and Ellen are two women who have built a life together on a hard farm in Canada. When Paul, a good looking stranger, comes into that closed world, the balance between them goes. The real question is whether Paul is the trouble at all, or whether his presence has simply brought to the surface what the two women have never spoken about. Mark Rydell adapted D. H. Lawrence’s 1923 novella for his first feature and shot it on location in the Canadian winter. It is one of very few films of the sixties to take desire between women as its subject.
