The Road to Sampo

A young labourer, passing by way of a jail and a building site, meets a middle aged man. The man is going back to Sampo after ten years away. The two of them go on together. On the road they pick up the trail of a young woman who has run from the restaurant where she waited tables. Instead of handing her in for a reward, they take her with them. The three of them set out on an uncertain journey. The film builds this road through winter as a search. The state of people cut off from their villages in the Korea of 1975 is the real subject. Baek Il-seob and Kim Jin-kyu appear in Lee Man-hee’s hundred and one minute South Korean film, completed in 1975.
