What The Scouting Book for Boys Is About
David and Emily are best friends living on a caravan holiday park on the Norfolk coast, their days spent jumping from roof to roof and working through the site’s cheap attractions. When it becomes clear Emily will have to leave, David helps her hide in a remote cave on the beach. As the police start looking for the missing girl, what was an innocent secret begins to move on its own, and when the real reason she wants to disappear comes out, David’s world falls apart. That is where the darkness comes from: a boy pulled into a situation he cannot control, with what he feels for his friend becoming part of the danger. It is Tom Harper’s first feature, written by Jack Thorne, who won best newcomer at the London Film Festival for it. Thomas Turgoose and Holliday Grainger lead, and it opened in Britain on 19 March 2010.
