What The Sense of Wonder Is About
Louise, a widow working a pear orchard alone in the Drôme, is in debt and trying to keep going with two children. One day she hits a man walking on a dirt track with her car. Pierre never takes off his suit, speaks fast and mechanically, cannot bear being touched and refuses to go to hospital. Louise takes him home and works out gradually that Pierre has Asperger's syndrome. Éric Besnard builds it as a romantic comedy but does not treat Pierre as someone to be corrected; the ones who change are Louise and her children. Virginie Efira and Benjamin Lavernhe play them. The landscape, the season and the orchard set the pace of the story. Who it is for: viewers who like calm French romantic drama and rural landscape.
