What The Seventh Companion Is About
The film takes place in the civil war years that followed the Bolshevik revolution. General Adamov, a professor of law in the tsarist army, is arrested by the secret police along with many others of the bourgeoisie. When he is finally released he finds that nothing is left of his old life but the clock from the mantelpiece; he carries that clock from place to place through the nights and in the end comes back to where he started. The account tells the period in language neither accusing nor defending, and looks at what a single man is able to carry. Andrei Popov plays the lead in the eighty nine minute Soviet film by Aleksei German and Grigoriy Aronov, completed in 1967.
