The Silence of the Sky

Diana is raped in her own home and decides to tell no one. Her husband Mario learns what happened but behaves as if he had not heard; he is hiding something too. The two go on living without speaking of it. As the days pass, that silence becomes a separate form of violence inside the house. Marco Dutra tells not the event but what follows. No perpetrator is sought and no justice is sought; the film shows what it is like for two people to know the same truth and not say it to each other. House, kitchen, bedroom: the spaces narrow and the unspoken thing stands in every room. Leonardo Sbaraglia plays Mario and Carolina Dieckmann plays Diana. It is a Brazilian, Argentine and Uruguayan co-production. Who it's for: Viewers who like psychological drama, narratives built on silence inside a marriage, and Latin American cinema. Who it's not for: The subject is heavy and the film offers no relief anywhere. Rape used as narrative material is also not for everyone.
