Sur goes to a student theatre group's celebration, remembers nothing the next morning, and finds photographs from that night on her phone. Her scholarship is revoked, her family does not believe her, and she starts hunting for evidence alone. The only person who helps is an old friend working in a photocopy shop. Wregas Bhanuteja shapes it like a crime thriller, but what it is really about is the reflex of institutions to protect themselves. The university, the family and the friend group each take their turn at making the incident go away. It screened at Busan in 2021, won twelve Citra awards, Indonesia's national film prizes, and went to Netflix. Then something uncomfortable happened: three days before streaming, the studios announced that a member of the writing team had been removed from the credits over a sexual abuse allegation. A film about sexual violence had to alter its own credits over exactly that. Its flaw is length, with the investigation scenes circling.
