What The Sin of Nora Moran Is About
Phil Goldstone's 1933 pre-Code film follows Nora Moran, sentenced to die for a murder she did not commit. She could tell the truth and save herself, but doing so would destroy the lives and reputations of people she loves, and that is why she stays silent through the film. The telling starts at the end and opens further flashbacks inside its flashbacks; the speed of the cutting bewildered audiences and reviewers alike at the time and it failed at the box office. Zita Johann's performance is what people talk about now. The poster Alberto Vargas drew for it is counted among the finest in film history.
