The Snowdrop Festival

Kersko is a settlement of weekend cottages built in a wooded stretch of the Polabí region. The greatest passion of the people who live there is hunting. When a wild boar is shot, an argument starts between the hunters of two neighbouring villages over which of them has earned the trophy, and the matter keeps growing. Meanwhile everyone has their own small trouble, their own small pride and their own kitchen. Jiří Menzel's film is adapted from Bohumil Hrabal's writing; the two of them prepared the screenplay together and Hrabal appears in a small part. Kersko is the place where Hrabal really did have a cottage. The account moves in episodes and does not chase a big event; it holds the comic and the sad in the same scene. It is one of six films Menzel made from Hrabal.
