The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story

This short, spun out of Sony's Spider-Verse films, is not about heroics. It is about Miles Morales having a panic attack. School, family expectation and the responsibility under the mask stack up until the shadows in his own home become a physical threat and he is left facing his anxiety. Jarelle Dampier directs it in the language of horror, except the antagonist is not outside. It advances through design rather than dialogue: colour, sound and the rhythm of breathing. It runs only a few minutes, and Sony released it online for free, so reaching it was deliberately made easy. Who it is for: viewers who want short animation that addresses mental health directly and who love the Spider-Verse visual language. Who it is not for: anyone expecting action or plot continuation, since this holds to a single feeling.
