The Spy Who Fell to Earth

Ashraf Marwan was the son-in-law of the Egyptian president Nasser and worked at the highest levels of the state. He was also passing information to Israeli intelligence; the Mossad called him the Angel. He is credited with reporting one day before the 1973 war that it was about to begin. Years later his identity became public, and in 2007 he died falling from a balcony in London. Whether he fell or was pushed was never resolved. The real argument is this: was Marwan genuinely working for Israel, or was he a double agent misleading Israel on Egypt's behalf. There are people in both countries defending each view and the matter is still not closed. The documentary is based on Ahron Bregman's book; Bregman was the person who made Marwan's identity public and was due to meet him on the day he died. The film presents both cases and does not pick one. Thomas Meadmore directed.
