The Stairway to the Distant Past

Mike Hama is a private detective. He has run out of money. His old Nash convertible has been repossessed. He now works the Yokohama waterfront on a borrowed bicycle. The jobs he takes have shrunk as well. Then a woman called Lily comes back to town. She is a well known stripper. She is also the mother who walked out on Hama and his sister years ago. Her return upsets the balance of the underworld. A mysterious man dressed in white appears. The police and the yakuza are both uneasy about him. The story reaches back into the unfinished business of the postwar years. Hama has to face his own past along with it. The film is the second part of the Mike Hama trilogy. Masatoshi Nagase and Eiji Okada appear in the hundred and one minute film, a Japanese production Kaizo Hayashi finished in 1995.
