The State Department Store

Kocsis Ferenc is a capable employee. He is appointed director of a newly opened state store. The store has a crowded staff. Ilonka is a talented fashion designer. One salesman clings to the old ways. The bookkeeper is careful and honest. Kocsis and Ilonka argue constantly to begin with. Both have given themselves to the work. The quarrel turns into love in time. Meanwhile a dismissed man spreads a rumour. He says the new trading order cannot meet demand. His acquaintances start rushing to the store. The buying turns quickly into a general panic. The store holds out until the supplies arrive. The film is built as a musical comedy. The telling openly defends the official line of the period. Miklós Gábor and Zsuzsa Petress appear in the ninety eight minute film, a Hungarian production Viktor Gertler finished in 1953.
