What The Story of Vickie Is About
Young Victoria comes to the English throne at eighteen. She knows nothing about governing, everyone at court is trying to decide things on her behalf, and her mother and her advisers are pulling against each other. While making her first decisions she also has to deal with the marriage that has been arranged as suitable for her. Then she meets her cousin Albert, over from Germany, and the matter stops being a formal arrangement. Ernst Marischka directs, with a fifteen-year-old Romy Schneider as Victoria and her own mother, Magda Schneider, as the queen's mother. A year later Marischka would make Sissi with the same actress, and that series would turn Schneider into an image she spent years unable to shake off.
