The Sunset Limited

A professor pulled back from the edge of a subway platform is taken to the flat of the man who saved him. The man asks him to stay, and they talk for two hours. The film takes place in one room, with two actors and almost no movement. The argument runs between faith and its absence, but the narrative takes no side; the rescuer's reasons are warm, the professor's are consistent, and the film resolves neither. Tommy Lee Jones directed and starred, opposite Samuel L. Jackson. It is adapted from Cormac McCarthy's play and was made for television. A real warning: the film is an argument about suicide from beginning to end and offers no consolation at the close. If the subject is close to you, know that going in.
