What The Sword Stained with Royal Blood Is About
Young Yuan, raised to be an upright martial artist, finds in a cave a skeleton, a treasure map and a manual setting out the sword method of the master called the Golden Snake. Following the request in the manual, he sets out to take part of the treasure to that master’s former lover, and along the way learns who the Golden Snake was and how he died. The intrigues and revolts of the last days of the Ming dynasty run into the story. The fights are staged in the crowded, acrobatic manner the director is known for. Chang Cheh’s hundred and four minute Hong Kong film was adapted from Jin Yong’s novel; Phillip Kwok and Chiang Sheng appear.
