What Have Sword, Will Travel Is About
Ying Ke-Feng, head of Peerless Manor, is a master swordsman who runs an escort business carrying two hundred thousand taels of silver to the capital every year. This year, though, he is struck by an ailment that leaves him unable to use his hand. Finishing the job will take somebody other than him and his fiancée. The man who turns up to help is a penniless, proud swordsman nobody takes seriously. This wuxia picture, made by Chang Cheh for Shaw Brothers, is among the first films David Chiang and Ti Lung appeared in together; the pair would become the genre's best known duo in the years that followed. The fights are crowded and bloody, but the real subject is pride and obligation between men. The question of who saved whom becomes more important than the question of who loves whom.
