The Taste of the Black Earth

The film is set in the year 1920. The place is the region of Silesia. That year an uprising begins there. What the uprising is for is keeping the region in Poland. On the other side are the Germans. At the centre of the account are seven brothers. The brothers join that struggle. The fighting goes on at the front and in the village alike. Family ties and political choice run into each other. The film tells the war from inside one family. The question of land is part of the account too. Olgierd Łukaszewicz and Jan Englert take the leads, with Jerzy Bińczycki and Bernard Krawczyk also in the cast, in Kazimierz Kutz’s Polish film of 1970.
