The Twelve Months

A poor girl is given an impossible task by her stepmother: to gather snowdrops in the forest in the middle of winter. In the forest she comes upon twelve brothers. Those brothers are the twelve months of the year. With their help the snowdrops are found, and from there the story turns in another direction. The film builds a fairy tale as a feature for children. Setting good against evil in the language of the fairy tale is the real idea. It comes from the tradition of tale adaptations in Soviet cinema of 1973. The hundred and thirty five minutes are given to a long telling. Tatyana Pelttser and Leonid Kuravlyov are also in the cast of Anatoliy Granik’s Soviet film, completed in 1973.
