The Ugly Duckling

The film is adapted from Andersen’s tale. It is put together like a musical comedy. It takes place in a farmyard. Roosters, hens, ducks and geese live there. They share the yard and lay their eggs in it. One day a rooster finds an egg behind the fence. The egg is far bigger than the others. He quietly slips it in among his partner’s clutch. Before long a chick comes out of it. It looks like none of them. The yard shuts it out at once, and humiliation and suspicion follow it about. It keeps growing all the same, and in the end it becomes a white swan. Garri Bardin made the seventy five minute film in plasticine, a Russian production finished in 2010.
