What The Unheard Woman Is About
Hanni is a farmer’s wife with three children and she is worried about her daughter Magdalena. The girl is smaller than the others, vomits often, and her eyesight keeps getting worse. The doctors, the teacher and the rest of the family all say the same thing, that it is psychological and a pair of glasses will settle it. The mother refuses to accept that and spends years pursuing something nobody believes, risking the family’s peace and its livelihood and finally taking the matter to the Bavarian courts. The diagnosis, when it comes, is a brain tumour. Directed by Hans Steinbichler, this ZDF television film is based on the book in which Angelika Nachtmann described what happened to her own family. It premiered at the Munich Film Festival in June 2016 and took the One Future Award.
