The Unorthodox

The year is 1983. Yaakov Cohen runs a printing press in Jerusalem. He is pushed around at work and around him. Doors close on him because of his surname and his origins. Families of Sephardi descent are not heard. One day he makes a decision. He means to stand in the municipal elections. He sets up his own list. The list rests on Sephardi and ultra-Orthodox circles. He brings two friends in with him. The three of them run the campaign as they go. They have no money. They have no connections either. What they have is anger and a sense of justice. The film rests on a historical episode. Shuli Rand and Yakov Cohen appear in the ninety two minute film, an Israeli production Eliran Malka finished in 2018.
