What The von Trapp Family: A Life of Music Is About
Ben Verbong’s 2015 German-Austrian production adapts Agathe von Trapp’s 2003 memoir, whose title refers to what she remembered from before and after The Sound of Music. The film follows the eldest daughter of the famous musical family as she tries to build a career of her own and eventually moves to the United States. It is deliberately the side of the story the musical left in shadow: not the legend of the family but the account of one person who grew up inside it and had to work out what belonged to her. Eliza Bennett plays the young Agathe and Rosemary Harris the older one, with Matthew Macfadyen as Captain Georg von Trapp.
