The Wanted 18

The film tells a true story from the First Intifada. On a Palestinian collective farm the community buys eighteen cows so that it can produce its own milk. The Israeli army declares that production a threat to the national security of the state and begins hunting for the cows, while the people hide them and keep moving them. Amer Shomali and Paul Cowan build the story out of stop motion animation, drawings and the accounts of the people who lived through it, and the cows themselves speak inside the telling. An army going after a cow gives the account both its comedy and its actual subject: why producing your own milk was treated as so large a matter. The seventy five minute production was completed in 2014.
